by Lynett Muhaso I love to buy my fabric in yardage which means cutting width of fabric strips can be a bit tricky. Have you ever cut your width of fabric strips and find they have a curve or bow along the fold. The cut, though you made sure to line up you fabric with the lines on your cutting mat and ruler, still resulted in a curvy wonky strip? That was totally me when l started but have since found a foolproof way to cut my fabric strips and have them come out nice and straight all the time. Today l would like to share with you my way of cutting width of fabric strips that will result in a nice clean straight cut. I use this method all the time when cutting my strips and thought to share with you too, if you also run into this problem of the curved strip. You can use this method to cut multiple strips without the need to move your fabric too.

This baby size Boxes of Love quilt was first off the rank when we decided this pattern was a go. I was so eager to get started that l finished cutting and piecing the top within the day. I love the colour combination of the pink, green and white, a palette l have wanted to use for the longest of times but not the right project on hand. All the fabrics used are Kona solids and l just can't help but smile each time l see this baby size Boxes of Love quilt. This single colour heart version uses yardage, so pull out your favourite fabrics and get started. Boxes of Love quilt pattern is finally here and l couldn't be any more excited. This quilt pattern has been the most rewarding pattern l have written to date. Why, you ask? It has been the most rewarding because l got to collaborate with my 9yr old baby girl, Lily aka Petal. You see, when l decided to embark on this journey, it was not only just for me but to show up for my girls to go for their passions. l would play with some designs and only ever let her colour in said designs because like my fabric scissors, l didn't want her "ruining or damaging" my design programme. That is, until one day l decided to let go, let her reign free and see where it leads her. Once l gave her permission and free reign to tinker beyond just the colouring of already made designs, we created her own folder and she got to play. One of the many designs she made was what we now call Boxes of Love quilt pattern. by Lynett Muhaso Hey there Quilty friend, today l'm going to share with you, my must have quilting supplies or tools that l use most often and have helped improve my quilting game. I am sharing these in case they are helpful to any of you.
Let's get started! |
Hi there, my name is Lynett and welcome to my Avenue!
I have an insane addiction to fabric and can happily spend all day in a fabric shop just ogling, touching and maybe(most likely) buying some. l only need a teensy bit of encouragement and l will shop up. I find so much joy in seeing new life breathed into these fabrics, turning them into some lovely modern makes to use in the home or gift to a special someone. Categories
